Rowan University Men’s D2 Ice Hockey team skates into December currently standing at 7-9-1.
The Profs split their previous two matches against rival Rider University winning the first on Nov. 22 4-1 and losing the second at home on Nov. 23 6-4.
Rowan has only two games in December, back-to-back games against Delaware University on Dec. 6 and 7, before they take a month off for Christmas break.
Earlier in the season, Rowan faced off against the University of Delaware ACHA Division 1 Ice Hockey Team in two exhibition matches.
However, the Profs now face the Blue Hens D2 team in division play. The team looks to even out their record before the holiday season.
The Blue Hens come into the weekend standing with a record of 13-10-1. Two wins for the Blue Hens would secure them crucial points towards the MD2 ACCHL division.
Senior Captain Carter Jones expressed his tenacious mentality for the upcoming weekend.
“We want to win, that's all there is to it. There's nothing to save it for. We have plenty of time off. The way our record is, we need these two,” said Jones.
Associate Head Coach Ian Kliewe gave his insight on how the season’s been shaping up so far.
“It's pretty similar to last year's start. We started off slow, but we found our groove. We have almost the same record as last year before leading to our championship. We are fine tuning the screws and we are ready,” said Kliewe.
The Profs had a Canadian Prospect, Dmitry Thompson, skating with them on Tuesday night. Rowan continues to grow their DII program in hopes of going Division 1 in the future.
Thompson found Rowan through a recruiting website, “Seems like good academics and a good team,” said Thompson.
Thompson will skate with the Profs just for Tuesday as he heads back to Toronto for some games back home.
The Profs will travel to Fred Rust Arena for the first of the two-game series and find themselves back at home at Hollydell Ice Arena for the second and final game until January.
