The Rowan University Men’s Division II (D-II) Ice Hockey team lost both games against the High Point University Men’s D-II Ice Hockey team, 4-2, and, 6-3, over the weekend at Holly Dell Ice Area.
The Profs are now 2-2-1 on the season.
It was a frustrating weekend for the young team, who struggled to stay out of the penalty box.
“We’ll figure it out, we’re just going to keep playing our game, it’s going to start clicking,” said defenseman John Shannon. “We’ll stay out of the box and start learning our confidence and our strengths.”
The line of Griffin Meyer, Daniel Duffy, and Ryan O’Donnell combined for a total of four of the five goals scored over the weekend.
In the second game, Rowan jumped out to a two-goal lead at the 13:33 mark, thanks to Duffy, who scored his second of the game.
“We’re almost there,” said assistant coach Ian Kliewe. “In the sense that this is a good frustration to have. This is a good adversity to have, come playoff time. We got a young team, they’re very talented, they’re just refining what they need to do.”
A young team in the young season. The same can be said from last year, when Rowan got off to a slow start.
After going 5-5 through the first 10 games of the season, Rowan would go on to win two big games in a row against Penn State University’s D-II Men’s Ice Hockey team.
“Last year, we went into the playoffs as the one seed,” said Shannon. “So I’d rather have these struggles now, and then we’ll figure it out later on. Which we know the room, we’re confident, so we’ll be alright.”
Rowan looks ahead to Maryland University, which eliminated the Profs from the playoffs last year, and will play a two-game series against them. One away, and one back home on Oct. 2 and 3.
