The Rowan Men’s DII Ice Hockey team (16-5-2) put on yet another offensive clinic, with a dominant 9-2 win over Montclair State University’s DII team at a packed home game at Hollydell Ice Arena.
This was the most goals Rowan has scored all season in a single game. The second closest, coming from their first game of the season against Millersville, as they scored eight goals.
In the first period, the Profs weren’t themselves, giving up the first goal of the game to Montclair.
“We just weren’t doing anything at all,” said head coach Brien Bennett . “And sometimes we just need a little bit of a wake-up call.”
And the team certainly responded.
Rowan freshman forward Ryan O’Donnell , who had two points on the night (1g, 1a) and was player of the game, would tie it at one a piece off an assist from senior assistant captain and defenseman, Riley Rudolph , towards the end of the first period.
“I’ve been struggling to get one,” said O’Donnell. “We’re a good team, and we know that, and we can play with anyone, it just takes having good practices, having a good week, and bringing it all here.”
Rowan went on to score seven unanswered goals through the second and third periods. In the second period alone, the Profs scored four goals in the matter of 10 minutes.
One of the four goals came from junior John Shannon , as he recorded his first of the year. Shannon missed the first 20 games of the season with an injury.
“Me, Griffin (Meyer), and Capecci (Riley), just had a good conversation off the draw,” said Shannon. “We knew it was coming to me, and it was just a great screening up front.”
Rowan now looks forward to facing West Chester University at home this upcoming Saturday. The Profs have already faced West Chester this season, as they lost to them in overtime on the road.
