Rowan University wrapped up their rivalry weekend against Rider University in a two-game series this past weekend.
The Profs split the series winning the first game on the road 4-1 and dropping the second game at home 6-4.
In the first game, Rowan dominated Rider in the shots category all game long, but it wouldn’t be until the mid-second period the Profs scored with 38 seconds to go on their powerplay, finally breaking even against Rider.
No goals would be scored the rest of the second. But, early in the third period, Rider struck back, knotting the game at one.
The Profs kept knocking at the door continuously with good chances, and just two minutes after the Rider goal, Rowan would answer back taking a 2-1 lead.
All game long Rider consistently turned over the puck, and while on the powerplay for Rider, the Profs capitalized on a turnover for a shorthanded goal, now extending the lead to 3-1.
In the final 50 seconds of the game, with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker for Rider, the Profs were able to dump the puck into the net and secure the 4-1 win.
The second game saw Rowan struggle with turnovers heavily.
The first period was filled with scoring compared to the first game, as each team lit the lamp three times each, and the game was tied 3-3 heading into the second.
It would continue to be a back-and-forth battle all game long, but Rider eventually took a one-goal lead and buried the empty netter with less than a minute to go, making it 6-4.
Freshman forward Max Findley thinks the team just has to keep pushing forward to the next game.
“Just take our energy, look at the loss, and move on to next week,” Findley said.
