After weeks of hard skating, sweat, and grinding, Rowan’s ice hockey team is ready for the home opener on Saturday against the University of Delaware.
The team was tested, though, as some drills left them pushing their endurance and gasping for air. Dmitry Thompson, a freshman from Stouffville, Canada, thought the 7-pass drill was by far the toughest. “Guys were moving all the time, you had to have your head on a swivel.”
Even with the tough drills day in and day out, with the addition of waking up at 8 a.m., freshman RJ Rowand thanks the coaches for pulling the team together. “They made sure we were communicating, made us jell together. That’s kinda what it’s about, coming together.”
For this year, the Profs are welcoming fourteen freshmen into the team, and all fourteen looked ready and hungry coming into and out of camp.
Assistant captain Josh Bianchi took notice of the new faces and their drive to make an impact right away. “They all looked good collectively as a group.”
Riley Rudolph, the other assistant captain of the team, commends the rookies for how they were all able to listen and have discipline.
With training camp now behind them and taking their first win away at Millersville, the Profs are shifting their focus to the season that’s ahead in the coming months.
Despite it being early in the season, everyone on the team is getting along perfectly.
“I think as a team, the bonding is definitely a lot better than what you’d expect it to be. Everyone is coming together really well.”
Captain Nick Thomas believes that camp is just the beginning.
“We’re getting closer and closer every time we’re with each other. I just think the room is going to be close come our home opener.”
